Tips on Tuesday: One Little Word

Credit where credit is due. I saw the Girls Girls Everywhere blog regarding One Little Word and it inspired me. I also researched the original post from AEzine and I knew I had to do this.

One Little Word started as a concept for scrapbooking. However, the original author expanded it to be a life thought. What happens if we take One Little Word and focus on that word all year long? Can we grow ourselves in an area? Can God work through our word to bring us closer to Him? I think it's worth a try.

All you do is pick one word to focus on for the year. It doesn't have to be spiritual, grand or large. You can use ideas, thoughts, emotions--anything that speaks to you. It doesn't even have to make sense to you at this point in time. The idea is to take some time to let your word really come to you and settle deep in you. Even if you aren't sure why it's your word, the exciting thing is it should be revealed to you throughout the year why that one particular word resonated with you.

I spent an entire day rejecting word after word because nothing I thought of was big enough or grand enough to be my word for the entire year. However, God kept nudging me back to the first word that popped into my head. So I'm unveiling my One Little Word for 2009. It is the word Cherish.

I have already blogged about the word cherish. I spend lots of time urging mothers to cherish time with their children. I'm well aware that the days are incredibly long, but the years are very short. I want to cherish every moment because once they are grown, it's too late to cherish the baby, toddler, school, tween, teen, etc. years. I also want to spend more time cherishing friends and family. I want to reconnect with some people that I've let slide. I want to spend more time focused on those whom I love. It's also important to me this year to cherish the Lord more, too. I want to continue to grow in my relationship with Him and to cherish the opportunity I have because God sent His son Jesus to be the sacrifice for my sins.

As I have spent the last week pondering the word cherish, God revealed something to me. I was thinking about the fact that we all have a place in our hearts where we desire to be cherished and loved. Sometimes we fill that place with bad substitutes and poor choices...but that place still wants to be cherished. God revealed to me that He put that desire in our hearts to help us find Him. God is the ultimate source of love and He is the one who cherishes each of us the most.

I'm excited to see where my One Little Word leads me throughout the year. I hope you'll let me know what your word is because I'm excited to see what God has for each of us.

I just reread this post. I have thought about this concept all year and I am trying to find one little word that resonates with me. I put it out on FB and got a few interesting responses. What did you learn about your word in 2009 and what is your word for 20101?
