Ellie Claire Gifts - Art Journals Review

Disclosure: I was provided copies of the journals in exchange for my review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I was given the unique opportunity to review three journal books. I wasn't really sure what to expect so when I opened the box to pull them out, I was instantly amazed at the quality of the books I held in my hands. I received Faith and Lettering Journal, The Illustrated Word, and Illuminate Your Story from Ellie Claire Gifts. These books are absolutely stunning to look at and to hold. And working in them was a sensory plus. Overall, all three books are made with thick, high-quality paper and covers that feel old fashioned--thick, sturdy, and embossed. The paper is high quality to keep any ink from bleeding through.

FAITH AND LETTERING

Faith and Lettering is a journal designed to help inspire you to create while writing. It helps teach you basic lettering skills and embellishments. There are beautifully illustrated inspirational quotes and scriptures throughout to remind you of who you are in the Lord. You are His Masterpiece, you are Beautiful, you are Fearfully and Wonderfully Made. You can purchase Faith and Lettering here

THE ILLUSTRATED WORD

This Journal is just as described on the back of the book. The style is absolutely as wonderful as what the monks used to create when they copied and wrote Scriptures. Each page has a work of art and many of the two page spreads have art to color on one side and the original on the other. The paper is thick like parchment paper in those ancient manuscripts. I love looking at these ancient pictures and the details put into them. This journal was the most 'old-fashioned' in my mind, but became my absolute favorite. I love turning the page to see another work of art. It was so pleasing to me both in the visual sense and in the tactile sense of holding and turning the pages. You can purchase The Illustrated Word here.

ILLUMINATE YOUR STORY

This journal was one that grew on me. I don't know why it took me so long to understand the premise. If you think of old books and Bibles, you will remember how chapters or pages would start with a vibrant, square, large letter to start the writing. This journal teaches you how to create these beautiful leading letters. In addition, each page of the journal starts with a verse or quote to inspire. This journal intrigues me the most. I did start working on creating some of these corner letters, but I'm not confidant enough yet to share. But the instructions make it so easy that even I--who considers myself art challenged--believe I can successfully create and eventually share my art. I see this skill reaching beyond journaling and into other areas of cards and letters to friends. You can purchase Illuminate Your Story here.

I most sincerely hope people everywhere will look at these books and consider not only journaling, but learning to journal with a style that enhances what you write.
