Summer Fun for All Ages

What do you do for summer fun? In our house, it's a little more mixed up. When you have an elementary student, a middle school student and a high school student in the same house, it's hard to find an activity that is a good fit for EVERYONE. Makes vacations a little more interesting for us.

Those of you who have followed me for a while know that my husband and I are museum freaks. We love museums. Nothing like them for fun and learning combined. Locally, we try to make a trip (or two or three) every summer to the Durham Museum to see the trains and the summer exhibit. We usually purchase a pass to the Durham so we can go repeatedly. Same thing with the zoo--we like to pop in every so often to see a movie, visit one or two things and leave. Other days we will spend hours roaming and seeing the exhibits.

Moving out of museums, the little ones still like spraygrounds and parks. The teenager, not so much. We try to arrange to do these activities while he has other plans. Or we leave him at home...sometimes I force him to come with me to help corral the kids. The nice thing about spraygrounds and parks is that they are free. An inexpensive water option is the public pool. There are so many good pools to visit in the Omaha area.

Then there's the make your own fun kind of a thing. I'm always surprised at how few people are aware of Roadside America. What a treasure this site is for anyplace in America. It's all the fun stuff we like to do, consolidated. While we haven't made it to everything on the list, we've done quite a few. This summer, I'd like to get my picture taken with Chef Boyardee (in front of the ConAgra building).

I'm not sure how to find them, but we still look for the J. Doe's that were done years ago. That summer, we tried to get to and take a photo with every single one. So as we find them today, we get new pictures.

And for rainy days or indoor (too hot to be outside days), we still like to have family game time. Spoons is our current favorite game. We also like several board games and will play many different games over the summer.

Signed, Sealed, Delivered -- New Hallmark Channel Series

Have you seen the new series on the Hallmark Channel? It's called "Signed, Sealed, Delivered." I've been watching a preview that I was given access to on order to write this post. While it has been created and produced by Martha Williamson ("Touched by an Angel" producer), it has a different feel overall, while retaining the wholesome qualities and faith builders that we have come to associate with her. I'm really excited to learn more about the series and to see more episodes. The series has some scriptures incorporated into the themes and the characters even share some verses in their conversations. To help us viewing the show dig deeper into the themes, the American Bible Society has built a study guide to go with the series. If you would like to receive the study guide, you can sign up here by giving your email and they will send it to you. It's a daily devotion and Bible Study.

From the Hallmark Channel:
The new original series "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" is a wonderful combination of romance, comedy and drama that follows the lives of four postal detectives who transform themselves into a team of detectives to track down intended recipients of undeliverable mail. Their missions take them out of the office and into an unpredictable world where redirected letters and packages can save lives, solve crimes, reunite old loves and change futures by arriving late but somehow always on time. The team includes charming Oliver O’Toole (Eric Mabius), a genius postal detective and the group’s leader; new team member, Shane McInerney (Kristin Booth), a technophile who brings 21st century sensibility to the group; free-spirited, “girl next door” Rita Haywith (Crystal Lowe) who has a photographic memory; and lovable Norman Dorman (Geoff Gustafson), a master in conventional research methods. The show airs SUNDAYS, 8:00/7:00 CST on Hallmark.
Be sure to check out the Signed, Sealed, Delivered Facebook page and like the page. And join me in watching the show. I hope you will comment and let me know what you think! I've enjoyed the preview I got to watch and I'm looking forward to the series.

Disclosure: I was given the opportunity to preview an episode of Signed, Sealed, Delivered in exchange for my honest review. No other compensation was given and my full disclosure policy is in effect. Thank you to Flyby Promotions and Signed, Sealed, Delivered for the opportunity to write this review.

Season Premiere of American #BibleChallenge Airs Tonight

Have you seen The American Bible Challenge yet? The season premiere is tonight at 8:00 pm (EST) and 7:00 pm (CST). I'm always amazed by how much my children know about the Bible when we watch this show. They have done a lot of Bible Quiz challenges at church so they are often smarter than me when it comes to answering the questions.

The American Bible Challenge is a fun-spirited game show. Hosted by comedy-recording artist, Jeff Foxworthy, it is a show celebrating the Bible and its teachings. Jeff Foxworthy does explore some of the funnier sides of life with the family interactions.

Would you like to win an American Bible Challenge prize pack? It includes a hat, t-shirt and a poster from The American Bible Challenge. Enter below for your chance to win. Giveaway closes on Friday, May 30 at 10:00 pm EST. Winner has 24 hours to respond or a new winner will be chosen.

Disclosure: I received a prize pack in exchange for my review. All thoughts an opinions are my own.

Guylian Chocolate Truffle #Giveaway

Welcome to our Guylian Chocolate Truffle Giveaway

experience

This giveaway is being Hosted by Tammie's Reviews, Giveaways and More and Coolestmommy's Coolest Thoughts. Sponsored by Guylian.

You have not enjoyed chocolate until you have experienced the Guylian Chocolate Experience. Savoring that hazelnut filling and having their chocolate melt in your mouth is a true experience that everyone should have.
Guylian is the world’s favourite Belgian chocolate and the #1 chocolate manufacturer in Belgium. Guylian “ultra-indulgent” luxurious chocolate seashells are marbled with 100% pure, silky smooth, milk, dark and white Belgian chocolate and are filled with our rich and creamy signature hazelnut filling. The Guylian brand dates back to the late 1950’s when Guy Foubert, a passionate Belgian chocolatier married his love, Liliane, who then joined names creating Chocolaterie Guylian. Today, Guylian crafts the finest authentic Belgian Chocolate Truffles, utilizing the our original signature hazelnut truffle recipe which is still made in small-batch copper kettles exclusively by Guylian’s Master Chocolatiers in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium.
I don't know about you, but I love--ok, I LOVE--chocolate. All sorts of chocolate. But there is truly no chocolate that compares to European chocolate. Truly--I've tried to find better. European chocolate in general has no beeswax in it (like American chocolate does) so it's richer and creamier. Just a few bites will hold over the strongest chocoholic. Belgim is well known for being one of the premiere chocolatier countries in the world. So Belgin chocolate is in a class by itself. So what better way to start the summer than with some Guylian Chocolate Truffles? I know chocolate helps me survive some days and with the kids home for summer vacation, I know some truffles would make a bad day much brighter.

Music and Movie #Free Series at Holland Center #OmahaPerformingArts

FREE MUSIC AND MOVIE SERIES RETURNS TO HOLLAND CENTER
‘Frozen’ and Dani Cleveland and Friends Kick Series Off on July 11, 2014
The following is a press release issued by Omaha Performing Arts. I had never heard of this series until I went to a promotional event at the Holland Center and a friend showed me where they project the movies. What a wonderful space they have to use. Please note that while the events are free, no outside food or drinks are allowed. They will have concessions available. It sounds like a fantastic fun time and I'm looking forward to seeing Dani & Friends and "Frozen" (again) on July 11. Hope to see you there!!
Omaha Performing Arts is pleased to announce the return of its Cox Music and Movies series. These free public events will run Fridays, July 11-25, 2014. Each Cox Music and Movies evening will feature a performance by an area band followed by a family-friendly film presented in the courtyard of the Holland Performing Arts Center, 1200 Douglas St. The Holland Performing Arts Center’s courtyard will open at 7 p.m. with music beginning at 7:30 p.m. and the film beginning at dusk, or around 8:45 p.m., rain or shine. Grass seating is available and blankets and chairs are welcome. Guckenheimer, the exclusive food service provider for the Holland Performing Arts Center, will provide concessions. No outside food, drink or pets are permitted.
Here is the full schedule of events:
Friday, July 11, 2014: “Frozen.” Before the movie and back by popular demand, Dani Cleveland and Friends will perform a high energy soul and R&B concert. Cleveland performed at Cox Music and Movies in 2013. Last year, she was nominated for an Omaha Hip Hop Award for Best Female R&B Artist. In 2010, she was honored as Artist of The Year by the National Council of Negro Women.

Friday, July 18, 2014: “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.”  Performing before the movie will be the Lincoln-based American roots band, Root Marm Chicken Farm Jug Band. The group plays old-timey music on traditional and homemade instruments. Like many of the jug bands of yesteryear, Root Marm features a rotating cast of musicians that shrinks and swells to suit each performance. At its core are Ian Craig, on the guitar, vocals, kazoo and harmonica; Matt Wynn on the banjo and bones; Josh Kornbluh on his makeshift drum kit; and Kyle Bruggeman on the great big gallon jug, as well as various whistles and other noise makers. Joining them for their performance at the Holland performance are Ash Sharp, a multi-instrumentalist who often sits in on his "fiddola" (viola), but is equally comfortable on the baritone guitar or toy piano and Casey Hollingsworth (a.k.a. Bud Heavy of Bud Heavy and the High Lifes) on the mandolin and vocals.

Friday, July 25, 2014: “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.” The five-piece country swing band The Electroliners performs before the movie begins. The Electroliners were nominated for Omaha Entertainment and Arts Awards for Best Country/Americana in 2012 and 2013. Band members include Douglas Kabourek, drums; Stephanie Krysl, vocals/fiddle; Travis L. Sing, doghouse bass/vocals; Patrick White, guitar/vocals; and Kate Williams, piano/accordion/vocals.

Mighty Leaf Mother Daughter Me #Giveaway

Welcome to our Mighty Leaf Mother Daughter Me Giveaway

This Giveaway is being Hosted Coolestmommy's Coolest Thoughts and Tammie's Reviews, Giveaways and MoreSponsored by Mighty Leaf Tea.

I don't know about you, but I was raised by a tea loving mother. I was drinking iced tea as a teen more than pop. It did take me to adulthood to really explore various teas and when my mother took a trip to England, she brought back some of the best tea I've ever tasted. I think of her every time I drink a 'cuppa.' I still enjoy many varieties and always seem to find a new tea to try when I'm out. It has been a fun connection for my mom and I--and my sister, too.

It’s a perfect read for this time of year when we honor our mothers. Here is what one reader said, “There is a lot that happens in mother-daughter relationships that never gets resolved and this book helped me think some of these things through.” Katie Hafner talks frankly about intergenerational living, painful divorces, her mother’s drinking, widowhood and a bumpy recovery from it. Named one of the best memoirs of the year by Oprah.com. Described on Oprah.com, “Real stories, real women, real lessons that will shake you up and set you back down—changed for the better (and stronger).”

Mother, daughter me – From the back cover,

“The deeply binding relationship between mothers and daughters is brought to life in Katie Hafner’s remarkable memoir…How these three women learn to navigate their challenging, turbulent journey together makes for riveting reading that is by turns heartbreaking and humorous – and always insightful.”

You can read Tammie's review of the tea by going HERE

What are you grateful for? #BlogHop

I was challenged by Mardra Sikora to join in the "What are you grateful for?" Blog Hop. Never one to back down from a challenge--especially a good one like this--I'm meeting her challenge and posting the things I am grateful for. Her point is that we get so bogged down in the 'stuff' of life that we forget to remember the simple joy that comes from living. And as scientists have proven, but most of us have already known, an attitude of gratitude makes you a happier and more productive person. Who will join with me and answer the grateful challenge?

Mardra is calling it Change Your World Wednesday. Who will join us?

The question for today is:
What are you grateful for and positive about right now?
The challenge is to name 10 things. But, start small and leave a comment with your #1 grateful and positive thing right now. If you are really up to the challenge, create your own post and join in the hop.
Here are my 10 things I'm grateful for and positive about right now:
1. My family is healthy.
2. My high school BFF took me to see Wicked on Sunday (and challenged me to a blog hop today, in case you wonder who she is). I'm in love with Wicked and am still singing the songs four days later.
3. There are only 7 days left in the school year. I love summer vacation and spending time with my kids and having a MUCH more relaxed lifestyle.
4. I'm still pumped up that Andrew was named one of Ten Outstanding Young Omahan Teens (TOYO Teen Award) for his volunteerism and leadership.
5. Rebekah gets to play in a soccer tournament.
6. Nathan was placed in advanced math for next year.
7. I was able to clean out the storage unit I rented after the big fundraiser walk (and in under my 30 days rental).
8. I have a husband who is still crazy in love with me (like I'm crazy in love with him) after 22+ years of marriage.
9. I have a car to drive, a roof over my head and food in my belly. That makes me 'rich' by the standards of most of the world.
10. I know Jesus as my Lord and Savior. My faith carries me through many days of uncertainty.

#TheHappys Playdate Party and #WerthersPopcorn

I was able to host a MommyParty where I was able to share The Happy's with some friends and their children's. Have you heard of The Happy's? They are wild and crazy fun for kids of all ages. They are  puppies or kitties which move around and interact. There is a 'treat' clicker that causes the animals to do tricks. Rebekah's favorite is Mittens the Kitten. When you push her fish clicker, she begs. The fun thing is that if you point the clicker at another Happy animal, the other animal can learn the trick, too.

And, thanks to Werther's Original for sending along bags of Caramel Popcorn. It is honestly some of the best caramel corn I've had. And I wasn't the only one loving the popcorn--the kids and adults plowed through the bowl with me.

Check out The Happy's dance:

Here are a few pictures of the kids playing with Mittens.

We also had fun with the Play & Chase ball. The pets chase it. I couldn't get any clear pictures because everyone--kids, The Happy's and the ball were all in perpetual motion.

Fun new toy that the kids really love.

ShaveMob #Giveaway

Welcome to our ShaveMob Giveaway

999896_374268222674062_577501458_n

This Giveaway is hosted by Tammie's Reviews, Giveaways and More, Coolestmommy's Coolest Thoughts and some awesome blogger friends. This giveaway is sponsored by  ShaveMob.

Shaving is something that both Men and Women do or should do. Every culture has their own definition on shaving and how often it should be done. It really is fascinating how they differ. You can read my review the product HERE.

I, Robyn, personally am a little ambivilent about shaving. It's just a chore you have to do--like trimming your nails or washing your hair. I prefer to shave while showering. When I was younger I'd have a whole production where I'd sit on the side of the tub, lather, make sure every inch was shaved. Now, three kids later, I shave in the shower the best I can and hope it looks ok. I like the look of the ShaveMob razors--I'm thinking there could be less razor burn.

National Moms Night Out #NMNO14 and #PapaMurphysMNO

Don't miss out on this deal. Saves you a fortune and the pizza is awesome.
Today marks National Moms' Night Out and the launch if the movie "Moms' Night Out." And I'm so blessed--I get to not only be a Moms' Night Out party mom, but I am also a Papa Murphy's Mom. So I have double reason to celebrate tonight.
Party Pack from #MNOMovie
I got a fantastic party kit for being a Moms' Night Out Party Mom. While I wanted to party like a rock star tonight, I need to be soccer mom at Rebekah's game. So we had some park time fun and relaxation this week. My kit came with free samples of a few products, a Disney Mickey/Minnie poster and treat bags with a poster, discounts for Fandango tickets, conversation starters and more.

I seriously DO need a MNO!!!
Park Moms' Day Out instead.

Here's the best part of all--I'm also a Papa Murphy's Mom. Papa Murphy's has teamed up with the Moms' Night Out Movie in order to provide an awesome deal for today only. For only $12, you get a large 2-topping pizza and TWO sides (S'mores pizza, Cinnamon Wheel, Cookie dough or Cheesy bread). It's limit 3 so I bought two of these...I'm thinking of going back for the 3rd when I realized in my market, it saves something like $7-8 per deal. Wowza!!! Get your coupon here.

I urge you to give Papa Murphy's a try if you haven't before. And while you're in there, ask about their "Faves". It's a one-topping large pizza (their choice of local favorite topping) for a super low price. In our area, $6---and the pizza is ten times better than the competing $5.55 pizza chain. There were ways to customize this deal, but I promise, now that I know about it, we'll be eating Papa Murphy's pizza a lot more often. Great pizza, made fresh before your eyes (unless you call ahead so it's waiting for you) at a price that can't be beat.

Happy National Moms' Night Out everyone!!!!

$50 Visa GC & Scrubbing Bubbles Fresh Brush Prize Pack

full_fresh_brush.jpg
Welcome to Our $50 Visa GC
and Scrubbing Bubbles Fresh Brush
Prize Pack Giveaway

This giveaway is being hosted by Tammie’s Reviews, Giveaways and More and promoted by some awesome bloggers including Coolestmommy's Coolest Thoughts.

From Tammie: I think the bathroom is the one room that I dislike to clean the most. It always takes so much elbow grease to clean it but when you have the perfect product as in the Scrubbing Bubbles Fresh Brush, clean up could not be easier. Now your bathroom will be a breeze to clean. You can read my review of the product HERE

1524688_10150367429539999_256167512_n.png

Robyn's thoughts - I agree with Tammie. Bathrooms just aren't my thing. I hate cleaning them--always have. In fact, in college when I lived in the sorority house, I'd trade every time it was my week to clean the bathroom. I could always find someone to trade so I could do dish/kitchen duty instead. I could also trade someone for trash duty...I never could believe all these crazy people would clean a bathroom voluntarily. Of course, with this prize package, I might enjoy cleaning the bathroom a little bit more.

Hallmark Inspirational Women Mother's Day #Giveaway

Welcome to our Hallmark Inspirational Women Mother's Day Giveaway

Coolestmommy's Coolest Thoughts is pleased to promote this giveaway hosted by Tammie's Reviews, Giveaways and More and sponsored by Hallmark.

Who is your inspiration? My mom has always been an inspiration to me--especially as I got older and wanted to become a mother. As a child, I never understood the kind of sacrifice it took for her to be a stay at home mom. I just knew my mom would always be there for a carpool ride if I needed one, or a field trip chaperone, etc. There were often cookies freshly made and in the cookie jar when we got home from school. She was ready to hear about our day. And now that I have kids of my own, I realize the sort of financial sacrifice it takes to be a one income family. I'm now a part of that group and have been since my oldest was born. And on the days when the month is longer than the budget or when I'm really tired of doing 'one more volunteer thing at school' or driving one more carpool, I remind myself how blessed I was and pray that my kids have the same memories of me. I know I wasn't always the best daughter--hindsight is 20/20--but I always knew my mom would be there for me, no matter what. And that is the most inspirational and priceless gift she could have ever given to me.
